Everyone is art and art is for everyone
Jenina Carriaga is an artist stemming from The Land of Enchantment, New Mexico. She grew up there and in Las Vegas, NV. She spent years in California and Shenzhen, China, always returning to her homes of her youth. She has shown both internationally and locally. Throughout her career she has focused on her contemporary works while staying true to her roots as a traditional artist.
In focusing on her origins as a traditional artist, a santera (saint maker), she creates her carefully crafted depictions of saints, taking great care to keep to the original process of retablo making as done 500 years ago in Spanish colonial times.
A storyteller by nature, her contemporary works document stories of family life, people, places, and cultures that she has come across in ever changing world. Glimpses of her feelings, dreams, experiences, and humor can be caught portrayed throughout many of her pieces. She works with natural pigments, oil, water color, acrylic, and in pencil, favoring bright, vivid colors as well as soft, sweet pastels.
She strives to make art accessible to all. She hosts and teaches periodic workshops . You can find her original traditional works sold at the Spanish Colonial Art Society's annual Spanish Market in Santa Fe, NM. Other originals can be found at various art shows and markets. Prints can be purchased here. Subscribe to her e-mail list to get updates on available originals, upcoming art shows, and events. You can follow her on facebook and instagram
